Richland One Parents Can Apply Early for 2007-08 School Lunch Program
Richland One parents whose children are eligible to receive school meals for free or at reduced costs can apply for the program this summer rather than waiting till school starts this fall. Staff from the district’s Student Nutrition Services Office will be at designated sites throughout the district to assist parents in completing the 2007-08 meal applications. More>>

World Champion Richland One Team Honored at the State House
Being world champions has its perks, privileges and just rewards. On Wednesday, June 6 the Busy Bodies, the team of Lewis Greenview Elementary students who won first place in the World Finals of the Odyssey of the Mind competition, got the VIP treatment at the State House, including a tour, standing ovation from legislators and a framed legislative resolution recognizing their achievement. Schedule Changes for Home Construction by Richland One Middle College Students
There’s been a slight change in the construction schedule for Richland One Middle College students to build a home for a needy family. 142 Richland One Students Selected as SC Junior Scholars
The South Carolina Department of Education has named 142 Richland One eighth-graders to its list of 2007 South Carolina Junior Scholars. These academically talented students were chosen because they scored 50 or higher on the PSAT in the verbal, math or writing sections. Students who participated in Duke University’s Talent Identification Program during their 7th-grade year were also eligible for this honor. More>>

Thirty Richland One seventh-grade students have been recognized for outstanding performance on the ACT or SAT in the 2007 Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). Fifteen Richland One middle-school students will have quite a response when their classmates ask them in August - "What did you do this summer?"

In June, the adventurous group of young explorers will travel to Morocco and Ghana as part of the 2007 Richland One Student Experience to Africa (ROSETA) program. The group will depart from Columbia on June 12 and return home on June 26. More>>

Richland One School Wins State Odyssey of the Mind Competition
Students from Lewis Greenview Elementary will represent South Carolina in the World Finals of the Odyssey of the Mind Competition to be held in Lansing, Michigan in May. Three teams of students from Lewis Greenview took first-place awards in the state championship on March 10. Those wins qualified them to go to the finals where they will compete with hundreds of teams from around the world. Other teams from Lewis Greenview also placed in the state competition. More>>

Hundreds of Richland One Students to Walk In Support of Diabetic Classmate
Stephen Owens, a fifth-grade student at South Kilbourne Elementary, has diabetes. So do a few of the school’s teachers. In an effort to find a cure for their medical condition, hundreds of students, teachers and parents will hold a diabetes walk and parade Wednesday, October 11 at 8:30 a.m. at South Kilbourne. Richland One School Celebrates Walk-to-School Day
On October 4, Forest Heights Elementary students, their parents and teachers will lace up their high tops, pull on their sneakers and start walking in celebration of International Walk-to-School Day. Burnside Elementary Invites Community to Health Fest
On Thursday, September 14, Burnside Elementary will turn into a temporary health center. Selected classrooms, the media center and even some hallways will be converted to screening areas for various conditions such as sickle cell, asthma and hearing loss.
