Richland One School to Present "Dancing with the Teachers"
High school teachers-yeah, we know they can handle algebra, English and biology, but the real question is "can they dance?" On March 16 Dreher High School will be doing its own live rendition of the hit TV shows "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance." The school’s dance team will be hosting a fundraiser called "Dancing with the Teachers." The show features 10 student and teacher duos competing against one another to raise money for a dance team trip, and to win the title of "Dreher’s Favorite Dance Pair." The teacher-student duos will hit the dance floor at 7 p.m. sharp in the Dreher auditorium.
At this competition votes can be bought! Every dollar an audience member casts is a vote towards a couple becoming the winner. Proceeds from the production will cover costs for the dance team’s trip to New York City in April.
"Dancing with the Teachers" will include four performances by Dreher’s dance team, a faculty and student finale and various dance styles by teachers and faculty including hip hop moves from administrator Brian Mahelsky; a waltz by athletics director Mike DuBard; the tango by football coach Bill Bacon; salsa by wrestling coach Paul Watson; the pasa doble by chemistry and physics teacher Ned Nance; krumping by Dreher’s Media Mavens; contemporary dances by English teacher Kinsley Wentzky; Broadway-style dancing by world history teacher Miriam Goodrich; the jive done by assistant principal Roy Blakeney; and (of course) disco by art teacher David Vandiver. What a line up!
The buzz in the school halls is the students are excited about seeing their favorite (or not so favorite) teacher on the stage. The audience can look forward to a panel of judges making comments after each performance before they vote. Lucas McFadden (from WIS’ early morning show Live with Lucas) will serve as a celebrity judge.
Admission is $5.00 and tickets can be purchased at the door the evening of the concert as early as 6:15 p.m. Each vote cast for a couple costs one dollar.
