Forest Heights Elementary
School Receives National Honor
Forest Heights Elementary School has been
selected as a 2004-05 Year-Round School of
Merit by the National Association for Year-Round
Education (NAYRE).
This honor was extended to
only 10 schools in the nation this year.
It is based upon a school’s commitment
to improving educational experience of students
through the use of a balanced calendar and through commitment to reducing
summer learning loss and for being a role model
for schools nationally that are seeking academic
excellence through time and learning.
"It
is an honor to receive the highest recognition
awarded by the National Association of Year
Round Education, said Dr. Cynthia Cash-Greene,
principal of Forest Heights Elementary."The
community, staff and students have all accepted
the challenge of being trailblazers toward
making this concept work. We are all benefiting
from the year-round education concept to
use time more effectively to better educate
children. I commend all stakeholders for
their confidence in us and the district for
their support to allow Forest Heights to
implement such a schedule."
The award will
be presented at NAYRE’s
annual conference in February.
