Dreher
High advances to S.C. SAT finals for sixth
year
Dreher High School is a state finalist in
the 2004 S.C. SAT competition for the sixth
year and is one of only two teams that have
advanced to the finals all six years of the
competition.
Dreher’s SAT team won the AAA Lower
State championship and will face Riverside,
the AAA Upper State champion, in the finals
on March 10 at USC. This is a rematch of last
year’s AAA finals, which Dreher won.
Nine high-scoring individuals also were announced
and will compete at the state finals including
David Wang of Dreher, who was the Class AAA
Individual State Champion for 2002.
State champions in each conference, both teams
and individuals, will be named at a luncheon
on March 10. State winners will receive trophies
and medallions provided by the S.C. High School
League.
More than 400 students from 35 high schools
participated in upper/lower state competition
at the end of February. Students took
a specially designed two-hour, 112-question
exam that was divided into two sections of
math and two sections of verbal questions.
The contest is open to all schools that are
members of the South Carolina High School League,
and participation is voluntary.
