Richland
One teams place second and third in state MathCounts
competition
Teams representing Hand and Crayton middle
schools placed second and third, respectively,
in the state MathCounts competition held at
Riverbanks Zoo recently. Fifteen teams participated
in the competition.
Hand ‘s Math Team, Nick Adkins, Stan
Adkins, Artem Aleshin, Noah Fram, Chris Garrick,
Daniel Kellogg, Aaron Markham, Macon Morris,
Elizabeth Myers, Alexx Niblock, Michael Utsey,
and Alex Wilcox, competed in the Columbia Chapter
MathCounts competition and placed first. Markham
won second place in the individual competition,
and Morris, Adkins, and Fram placed
in the top 15 in the competition.
The team competed in the State MathCounts
Competition at Riverbanks Zoo. Hand won
second place overall, with Fram placing
third in the individual competition. Fram
will be a member of the South Carolina team
going to Washington, D.C. to participate in
the national competition on May 7.
Crayton's team of Theo DuBose, Anna Hegquist,
Ella Soltz and Kaileen Yeh placed third at
the state competition. DuBose placed sixth
in the individual competition and first in
the countdown round.
