It's Time for the Superintendent's Cup

It is time to get active again with the race to the Superintendent’s Cup.  The Superintendent’s Cup is an annual event for all employees in Richland One.  It promotes getting out and getting active.

Not only will taking part increase your overall physical fitness and health and decrease your risk for developing health conditions (such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease), participants get the chance to win some very cool prizes.  The Superintendent’s Cup started on October 12 and ends March 26. Where to start?

First, set and define your personal goal and visualize success. Whatever your goal may be (to lose weight, lower your blood pressure or increase your overall health and self image) it all starts by setting that goal. Once the goal has been set, it also helps to visualize yourself meeting that goal and how you will go about doing so.

Second, you will want to consult with your physician if you have any current medical conditions (such as heart disease or diabetes) before starting your program.

    Third, get active!

Fourth, keep track of your progress.  Record each 30-minute or more activity you complete on the calendar. You can earn up to three wellness points for an hour and a half of activity per day.
You can earn points in the Superintendent’s Cup in the following ways:

-  30 minutes of activity/day = 1 point
- 60 minutes of activity/day = 2 points
- 90 minutes of activity/day = 3 points

You can also earn points by eating right.  Each day that you eat five fruits and vegetables you will get one wellness point.  Eating a cup of cooked vegetables or berries counts as one serving. A small glass (6 oz.) of 100 percent fruit juice can also count as a serving.

Participating in the Superintendent’s Cup also provides many benefits to employees. Some benefits are losing or controlling weight and reducing risks of developing diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis and arthritis. The Superintendent Cup program can also help lower blood pressure and cholesterol while reducing feelings of depression or stress and improve psychological well-being.
