Richland One Announces Staff, Alumni Honors

Please join Richland One in honoring two of its outstanding employees and a promising young graduate for the following achievements:

Personnel Administrator of the Year

Dr. Sanita Savage (right), coordinator of leadership development in the Richland One Office of Professional Development, was recently named the Personnel Administrator of the Year by the Personnel Division of the S.C. Association of School Administrators (SCASA). Each year the organization recognizes one person for outstanding leadership, professional concern and dedication to the profession and to the organization. Shown with Dr. Savage is her very proud mother, Ella Savage.

USC Literacy Leader

Ida Thompson (left), Richland One’s director of Instructional Technology Services, was one of three Literacy Leaders honored September 15 by the University of South Carolina’s School of Library and Information Science. Thompson was recognized for her efforts in working to reduce South Carolina’s illiteracy rate and her dedication to fostering a joy of lifelong reading in the lives of students. Thompson was congratulated by Charles Bierbauer (right), dean of USC’s College of Mass Communication and Information Studies.

Lower Richland Grad Wins NC Primary

Lower Richland High School graduate Derwin Montgomery is poised to make history come November. Derwin, a 21-year-old senior political science major at Winston-Salem (NC) State University, won the September 15 Democratic primary for Winston-Salem City Council by a 2-to-1 margin. He defeated the incumbent and two other challengers in the primary, and is expected to run unopposed in the November general election. Derwin would become one of the youngest Winston-Salem City Council members in recent history.
