Richland One Community Coalition Co-sponsors Youth Speak Out Event

Kids, this is your chance to be heard. What’s on your mind? How do you feel about your community and what’s happening there? Midlands middle and high school students are invited to attend Youth Speak Out on Saturday, September 26 to have their voices heard and to have some fun. The event will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center court of Columbia Place Mall, 7201 Two Notch Road.

Students will use hand-held electronic devices to give instantaneous responses to a variety of questions displayed on screens at the mall. Besides having an opportunity to share their views, students can look forward to an afternoon of entertainment and the chance to win great prizes including gift cards, college football tickets and school supplies, as well as passes for movies and bowling. And best of all, it’s all free.

Youth Speak Out is jointly sponsored by the Richland One Community Coalition (ROCC), the Richland 2 Reconnecting Coalition, Palmetto Health, Taco Bell and Columbia Place Mall. The organizations are working together to provide a venue for youth to share their opinions, concerns and viewpoints in an effort to create stronger families, to understand the challenges and opportunities young people face and to develop programs to enhance the lives of youth and their communities.

Parents seeking additional information should contact Felicia Brown, coordinator of the Richland One Community Coalition, at 231-6909 or at fbrown@richlandone.org. Media inquiries should be directed to the Richland One Office of Communications at 231-7504 or 231-7510.
