Richland One, Midlands Tech to Offer Fall Adult Ed Classes

Interested in a job in the medical field or need to sharpen your medical skills? This fall Richland One’s Office of Adult Education, in conjunction with Midlands Technical College, will be offering several courses. Training in becoming an EKG technician and certified nursing assistant are available as well as classes in medical terminology and phlebotomy. If your career interests lie in another direction, consider the variety of other courses and programs Richland One’s Office of Adult Education will offer this fall. To register for the following courses call 343-2935:

* Adult Literacy
Monday-Wednesday 8:30 a.m. -12:15 p.m. Cost: Free
These classes are for adults with limited reading, writing, spelling, and math skills. Students will receive direct instruction.

* English Literacy (English as a Second Language)
Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost: Fees vary
Tuesday and Thursday 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Day and evening classes are available for adults ages 18 and older who wish to improve their proficiency in English. Orientation and placement testing are required to determine the appropriate level class. Levels are beginner, intermediate, and advanced speakers of English.

* GED Preparation
Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m-12:00 p.m. Cost: $50.00
Tuesday and Thursday 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Students will receive individual and group instruction to help prepare them to take and successfully pass the GED test. Classes are held at various sites in the community. Students cannot be currently enrolled in high school.

* High School Diploma
Monday-Thursday 8:20 a.m-12:30 p.m.
Cost: $50.00 full credit/ $25 half credit
Students (age 17 or older) are required to have at least 16 credits to enroll. Each student must earn the 24 prescribed credits and successfully meet the standards of the South Carolina HSAP Exam. This course is offered during the day only at the Covenant Road site.

* HSAP Math Prep
Tuesday-Thursday 10:30 a.m-12:30 p.m. Cost: $25.00
Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
This class is designed to help students master the concepts needed to take
and successfully pass the HSAP (high school exit exam) math test. Students will be given individual study plans that focus on their individual needs.

* Child Care Training
Adult Education will offer Child Care training on Saturdays, October 3, 10 and 17 from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm at the Adult Education Center. Participants will receive 15 hours of required annual training. The cost for the three-week session is $50.00.

Infant and Child CPR will be offered on Thursday, Oct 8 at 5:30 pm and again on Saturday, October 10 at 9:00 am. The fee is $30.00
