NBA Hall of Famer Alex English to Speak at Richland One’s Coaches Convocation
Former NBA superstar and Dreher High School graduate Alex English is scheduled to be the guest speaker at Richland One’s 8th Annual Coaches Convocation on Friday, August 15, from 7:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Olympia Learning Center, 621 Bluff Road.
The convocation is a professional development session that gives district athletics staff an opportunity to enhance their coaching competencies, stay abreast of current hot topics, and celebrate the outstanding contributions of athletics administrators, coaches and student athletes.
English, currently an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors, is scheduled to speak at the second general session at 8:30 a.m. and again at the 12:30 p.m. luncheon. During the luncheon, the 2007-2008 Richland One Middle and High School Coaches of the Year the will be announced.
After being a star player at the University of South Carolina, English became the NBA’s most prolific scorer during the 1980s as he played for several teams, most notably the Denver Nuggets. He was named to eight NBA All-Star teams and was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
