MCBRIDE ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION FROM BOARD

Jeanette McBride has announced that she will vacate her seat on the Richland One Board of School Commissioners effective November 4.

McBride, a retired Richland One teacher who has served on the school board since 2004, won the Democratic run-off for Richland County clerk of court in June. She is unopposed in the November election.

McBride submitted an "irrevocable letter of resignation" to Board Chairwoman Wendy Brawley on August 7. Election officials also have been notified.

Mike Cinnamon, director of the Richland County Election Commission, said a special election to fill the remaining two years of McBride’s four-year term on the school board will be held November 4 to coincide with the general election.

Filing for the at-large seat opens at noon on August 22 and closes at noon on September 2. Candidates will file at the Election Commission office in the Richland County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton St.
