BACK-TO-SCHOOL CELEBRATION TO FEATURE RICHLAND ONE LIVE ON NATIONAL RADIO SHOW
Getting ready to go back to school shouldn’t be this much fun, but it will be - and millions of listeners of the nationally-syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show will get to share in the excitement.
Tune in to KISS 103.1 FM on Friday, August 8, as Tom Joyner Morning Show personality and comedian J. Anthony Brown, a graduate of Richland One’s C.A. Johnson High School, co-hosts the show from the Americraft/Cantey Building at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds.
The live national broadcast will air from 6:00-10:00 a.m. Brown will chat with Richland One’s new superintendent, Dr. Percy Mack, during the show.
But you don’t just have to listen to your radio. Students and parents are encouraged to head down to the State Fairgrounds to get geared up for the start of the new school year. Columbia was selected as one of the sites of the first-ever Tom Joyner Back-to-School Celebration. Joyner and his Morning Show crew will broadcast from various cities across the country.
This event pulls out all the stops with a ton of free family services and materials including book bags, school supplies, health screenings, immunizations, food and games. Haircuts and hair braiding will be provided at no cost to parents. Three lucky students will win college scholarships and drawings will be held for family vacations.
More than 20 Richland One departments will have booths where families can pick up key information they will need at the beginning of the school year. The Forest Heights Elementary chorus will perform a selection or two which may be broadcast nationwide between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m.
The Tom Joyner Back-to-School Celebration is jointly sponsored by the City of Columbia, KISS 103.1 FM and the Together We Can Partnership. For more information please contact the Richland One Office of Communications at 231-7504 or 231-7510.
