BOARD TO HOLD COMMUNITY RECEPTION FOR NEW SUPERINTENDENT

Community members will have an opportunity to meet Richland One’s new superintendent during a special event next week.

The Richland One Board of School Commissioners will hold a community-wide welcome reception for Dr. Percy A. Mack at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 7 in the Dreher High School cafeteria, 3319 Millwood Ave.

By a unanimous 7-0 vote, the Board named Mack the district’s new superintendent on May 16. He was one of three finalists for the job which attracted nearly 60 applicants from South Carolina and other parts of the country.

Mack began his duties in Richland One on July 1. He previously served as superintendent of the Dayton (Ohio) Public Schools for six years. He is a native of Savannah, Ga.

Prior to his service in Dayton, Mack was an assistant superintendent in the DeKalb County School System in Decatur, Ga. He also served that district as an area executive director, a coordinator of personnel, a high school principal and assistant principal, a teacher and a coach in Decatur. He began his teaching career in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.
