Richland One, local firm honored for engineering excellence

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) has awarded the 2008 Engineering Excellence Award to Richland One and Civil Engineering Consulting Services Inc.

Richland One contracted with Civil Engineering Consulting Services, a Columbia-based firm, to work with the district to ensure safe access to Dreher High School from Millwood Avenue for students and faculty.

As part of the district’s Schools for the 21st Century bond construction program, the new Dreher High School was built on the site of the old school, which was later demolished. Classes were held in the old facility until construction was completed and the new school opened in August 2007. One of the major issues identified prior to construction and addressed through the project was the safety of motorists and pedestrians along busy Millwood Avenue. The new school’s front entrance faces Millwood.

ACEC has recognized engineering achievements that demonstrate the highest degree of merit and ingenuity through its awards competition for the past 39 years.
