In
keeping with our philosophy of providing
programs to meet the needs of all students,
the district offers a number of programs
for the gifted. The Advanced Academic Program
(AAP), which is available in all schools
for students in grades 3-12, strengthens
and broadens the academic and creative
talents of identified students. To develop
the exceptional abilities of these students,
a curriculum which combines acceleration
and enrichment is used. Because AAP is
offered in a variety of subject areas,
students may participate in one, several
or all subjects for which they qualify.
The
high schools also offer Advanced Placement
(AP) courses, coordinated by the College
Entrance Examination Board.
MEGSSS
(Mathematics Education for Gifted Secondary
School Students) is designed for students
in grades 6-12 who are highly gifted in
mathematical and verbal reasoning. This
program is the only one of its kind in
South Carolina and one of only five in
the United States.
In
addition, the district has High School
Scholars and Middle School Scholars programs,
which consist of agreements between students
and the district to take designated, advanced
courses and to participate in extracurricular
activities, leading to a special diploma.
For
more information about these programs,
contact your principal or the AAP office.
